UNIJOS GETS NEW DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLORS

The Governing Council of the University of Jos has approved the appointment of new Deputy Vice-Chancellors for the University. They are Professor Benjamin Tagbo Ugwu as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Professor Musa Andrew Ibrahim as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

Their appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of their predecessors, Professor Berthrand Nwufo and Professor Dauda Musa Enna.

Professor Ugwu is the former Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Jos and Consultant Surgeon, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of The West African College of Surgeons.

A 1982 Graduate of Medicine from the University of Jos, Ugwu, 52, has received extensive training in the field of Surgery in Nigeria, Japan, and Israel among other countries and is a member of many professional bodies including the Nigeria Medical Association, Association of African Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons and International College of Surgeons.

Similarly, Professor Musa Ibrahim in addition to having been a Dean, Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been a two-time Head of Department Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, all in the University of Jos, his alma mater.

As a scholar who has published many articles in reputable journals both nationally and internationally, Ibrahim, 59, was named as one of the 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.

Both Deputy Vice-Chancellors whose appointments took effect from November 24, 2010 for a renewable term of two years have since assumed office.
