FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES WINS CHANCELLORS’S CUP

The Faculty of Natural Sciences has emerged winner of this year’s Chancellor’s Cup in the inter-faculty soccer competition to commemorate the 24th convocation of the University of Jos.

In the final played on Wednesday March 16, Natural Sciences spanked defending champion, the Centre for Continuing Education 2-0.

Anumba Anayo scored twice for the new champions in a match in which both sides showed remarkable skills.

Faculty of Arts defeated Faculty of Education 3-0 to lift the third place trophy. The goals came through Adafang Johnmark, Adamu Moses and Okpeke Sylvanus.

Chairman University of Jos Sports Commission Dr. John Adeiyongo who stood in for the chancellor, praised the footballers for their commitment and the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited during the tournament.

He congratulated the winner and urged other faculties to put more effort next year in order to emerge as the winner and pledged that management would do its best to see sporting activities developed in the university.

While thanking them for their contribution in making this year’s tournament a success, he said efforts would be made to get the university’s soccer team to qualify for next year’s Nigerian University Games (NUGA).

The Faculty of Natural Sciences received N30,000 as first prize, Centre for Continuous Education received N20, 000 as second prize, Faculty of Arts received N10,000 for placing third while Faculty of Education received N5,000 as fourth prize.

Captain of Natural Sciences team, Uja Ulako thanked the university authority for organising such event to make students of the university to participate in celebration of convocation and urged the management to continue to encourage sports.
