The University of Jos Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected new officers to run its affairs with Dr. David Yakubu emerging as the new Chairperson.
The election in which all the contestants emerged unopposed also produced Dr. Egesie Gideon from the Department of Human Physiology as Vice-Chairperson and Dr. John Galadima from the Department of Mass Communication as Secretary.
Other officers include, Barrister (Mrs.) Vivian Jacdonmi of the Faculty of Law as Assistant Secretary; Mrs Mary Luka-Anza Kagoro of the Department of Chemistry as Financial Secretary and Dr. Allanana Abimiku of the Department of Economics, Investment Secretary.
Others are Dr. Shuaibu Saidu from the Department of Science and Technology Education as Internal Auditor and Dr. Jeno-Mary Enighe of Banking and Finance at the Centre of Continuing Education as Welfare Secretary.
The position of Treasurer is yet to be filled as no candidate indicated interest but Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Professor Patrick Oche said the position would be filled within two weeks.
Responding after the election, the Chairperson Dr. Yakubu thanked members for entrusting them with the responsibility of leading the union, promising not to disappoint in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“We promise to work relentlessly so that our branch will grow higher and higher. Success shall be the watchword of this committee”, he said.
The immediate past chairperson, Dr.Timothy Namo who noted that this was the first time almost all positions were unopposed, advised the new executive members to adopt the spirit of teamwork like their predecessors.
The election concluded with the new chairperson performing his first task of presiding over the congress.
