The University of Jos has launched a digital transcript system through which current and former students can access their academic records online.
Speaking at the launching, the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, expressed delight at the achievement saying, “This is first of its kind, first in history and my last official function in office”. His tenure ended on June 12.
He said with the launching of the system the headache hitherto associated with the processing and collection of transcripts which had made many former students to miss opportunities for employment, scholarship and further studies, would be a thing of the past.
He disclosed that the Senate had also approved that transcripts would now be issued to students at the end of every academic session as was once the practice.
Tyoden applauded the efforts of Jos Carnegie Partnership Committee (JCPC), the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Directorate of the University and other principal facilitators of the landmark project.
A former Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nenfort Gomwalk who was Chairman on the occasion, congratulated the University of Jos for being the first in Nigeria to operate a digital transcript system. “I am happy you are the first to have started it and I am sure other institutions will want to do the same now that the University of Jos has set the pace”, he said.
The former ICT Director who was the Project Consultant, Dr Ishaya Tanko demonstrated how the digital transcript delivery would work. “People will easily get transcript without necessarily coming down to the school, what they need is to log on to the website, fill the form and print their transcript”, he explained.
Executive Director of the Institution’s Advancement Office, Prof. Victor S. Dugga commended the University for showing concern and keen interest toward resolving the problems that the transcript issuance had once posed.
The Registrar of the University, Barr. Danjuma Jilli-Dandam in his vote of thanks acknowledged all the support given to the project.
