The 100 and 400 level teams trade tackles on Friday, June 24, 2011 for the final of the football competition as part of activities marking the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMCOMS) Week.
The two teams gunning for the Head of Department’s (HOD) Cup qualified for the final after winning their previous matches in the semi final matches.
The 4000 level team had humbled 200 level team by six goals to five in the semi-final match.
Habuh-Rasaq Salin gave the 200 level the lead after converting a brilliant pass from their captain Reuben Timnan before beating goalkeeper Dakat Grateful in the 10th minute at Jerry Useni Stadium of the university.
The captain Zongo Morina equalised for 400 level in the 20th minute of the match after converting a penalty committed on striker Djukpan Onome.
Wanapere Monday scored twice in the second-half, first heading in a Maiwada Joel corner in the 56th minute and firing a long range shot two minutes later.
Midfielder Gambo Joannes also scored a brace in the match by converting an excellent pass from defender Idakwo Emmanuel in the 61st minute and a fine left-foot goal in the 63rd minute.
It was a dramatic come back, when the 200 level came from five goals to one down to level at 5-5 before normal regulation time, Timothy Manji scored twice with powerful long range strikes and Awal Shehu completed the comeback in the 87th minute.
Surprisingly, the newly discovered striker by Coach Ambore Ibrahim, Abba Solomon gave the senior class a well-deserved victory in the extra minutes of the match with an unexpected shot from 35 meters.
In the second match 100 level shocked the highly-rated 300 level team with a 2-1 win. Nanfwang Reuben gave the junior class a lead in the 15th minute of the match and Dingse Phillip made it two in the 30th minute, when he converted a wonderful pass from Itakpa Frank.
Captain for the 300 level team, Ndem Nathaniel gave the self-acclaimed unbeatable team a consolation goal to make it 2-1 at full time.
