MALE STUDENT WINS ONGA COOKING COMPETITION

A 300 level male medical student of University of Jos, Odiate Daniel, has emerged the winner in the University of Jos Onga Campus Cooking Competition.

The annual event,organized by Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Onga seasoning, was held on Wednesday, June 29 at the Naraguta (Zion) Hostel.

Area Development Manager of Promasidor, Mr. Segun Koleoso said the aim of the competition is to bring the Onga brand close to the students because they are the homemakers of tomorrow. ​

He described the variety of dishes showcased at the competition as “nutritious and unique.”

“Nigeria is rich in culture and food and I have seen that being demonstrated here in Jos today”, he said.

Koleoso disclosed that the University of Jos was the seventh University to be visited by the competition this year adding that similar competitions would be held in eight more universities across the country to complete the target of 15.

Odiate who was one of the two male students who participated, made a dish of egusi soup and eba to beat nine other contestants within a 90-minute deadline to win the star prize of a deep freezer.

“I knew within me and my mum had told me that I will win since I have been preparing egusi soup before and I know how to cook. I know that for you to have a balanced diet you have to prepare fruit salad, which I also did,” a jubilant Odiate told Unijos Echo.

A 300 level Zoology student, Dashima Roseline was the first runner up while Deborah Pwajok from the Department of Pharmaceutical Science emerged as the second runner up.

The winners from the various universities would participate in the grand finale scheduled for Lagos where the star winner would be awarded a brand new Kia Rio car.
