A 200 level female student, Princess Rhoda Ofeosi has been crowned the new ‘Face of Mass Comm 2011’ a beauty pageant by the Department of Mass Communication, University of Jos.
The beauty pageant took place on Sunday, July 3 during the department’s awards and dinner night held at Treasure Inn and Suites, Rayfield, Jos. Every year, a female student is chosen to represent the qualities of the department.
The winner, Ofeosi contested alongside three other contestants, Anastasia German, a 100 level student, Nannyam Lar and Nancy Gbongbon, both 200 level students.
The contestants appeared at different times in casual wear, the department’s dress code, cultural attire and evening gown.
In the culture category, Ofeosi, German, Lar and Gbongbon wore Benin, Fulani, Yoruba and Tiv attires respectively.
Ofeosi, stood out scoring 14 out of 16 points in the pageant in which Coordinator of UNIJOS FM Station, Mr. Dan Mallum and Mass Communication lecturer, Mr. Darlington Amorighoye served as judges.
Amorighoye described her as having charisma and calm, adding “she was the best traditionally dressed and she represented it very well”, he said.
“She’s got elegance, poise and a beautiful voice”, Mr. Mallum told Unijos Echo.
Ofeosi received a trophy from a representative of Dufil Prima Foods (makers of Indomie Instant Noodles), Mr. Victor Daniels.
Commenting on her win, the new Face of Mass Comm. told Unijos Echo, “I’m surprised that I won because my fellow contestants were all very beautiful but I feel really great”. She promised to project a good example and work for better integration amongst students during her reign.
Well-wishers from other departments and various walks of life were present at the ceremony.
Gifts were presented to all the contestants.
