Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly John Clark Dabwan has led a delegation of the House to the University of Jos on a familiarization visit commending the institution for emerging the Second Best University in Nigeria.
He said during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hayward Mafuyai that the visit was also to identify ways of partnering with the institution to better fulfill her mandate.
The speaker noted the challenges faced by the institution in recent times and pledged to contribute to the development of the institution to make it the best not only in Nigeria but in Africa and the world at large.
He congratulated Mafuyai on his emergence as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution and wished him a successful tenure.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor said the university is delighted and encouraged by the visit and congratulated the members on their victory at the polls.
Professor Mafuyai expressed gratitude for the existing partnership between the state government and the university, adding that with more resources the university would surpass its current ranking to being among the top ten in Africa.
He gave the assurance that any support given to the university would be judiciously
utilized for infrastructural development and capacity building. He said the university will sponsor a bill to help address security problems facing the institution.
