The Governor of the University of Jos Students’ Village Hostel, Abel Haruna, has described sports and other social activities as capable of boosting the level of intelligence of students.

Haruna, a 300 level Political Science student, stated this at the closing of the hostel’s 2011 Annual Social Week on Saturday, July 2.
“The activities were put together to foster unity and peaceful co-existence among the students in the hostel as well as to relax their nerves from tedious academic activities”, he said.

The week featured a beauty pageant, colour carnival, blind search, essay writing, cooking competition and a football tournament.
The physically challenged students were not left out as equal opportunity was given to all students to participate. The festivities climaxed with awards and dinner night at the Village Hostel Cafeteria.

A 300 level Law student, Miriam Yayaba said she was “happy with the event as it enabled students to learn how to co-exist peacefully.”
The immediate past Governor of the hostel, Israel Dapia described the village week event as for intellectual and social development.
He commended his successor for keeping the flag flying and appealed to the school management for support to make the event more elaborate in future.
