Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Nanle Dashen has promised to support the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMCOMS), University of Jos in transforming the department’s library.
He gave the pledge while receiving officials of the association who paid him a courtesy visit describing the development of a library as a worthy cause.
“I would definitely look into your call since it has to do with human capacity and intellectual development that would benefit all both now and in years to come”, he said.
Dashen described communication as key to society’s well being noting, “you cannot overemphasize the role communication has come to play in the society as it bridges the gap between the high and mighty and the low and unheard.
He therefore urged them not to relent in their effort by underrating their status as students and media professionals in the making advising them to aspire to become professionals who would improve mass communication practice.
Earlier, AMCOMS President, Mr. Richards Maiwada, said they were in his office to identify with the giant strides he has recorded within his short tenure as the commissioner of education.
Maiwada further intimated him on the challenges faced by the body saying, “our departmental library is in shambles, we need a students’ bus and our television studio is yet to commence operation due to lack of equipment.
Meanwhile, the association has held its first congress for the new academic session at the permanent site of the university.
The congress was attended by students from all the levels in the department during which issues bordering on the welfare and progress of members were discussed.
