OGUNRANTI, EX-UNIJOS MEDICAL SCIENCES DEAN BAGS AWARD

The former Dean Faculty of Medicine, University of Jos, Prof. John Oluwole Ogunranti has been awarded the 2011 International Academic Award for Excellence by Lagos-based African International Magazine.

A seasoned Professor of Anatomy and former Dean Faculty of Medical Sciences, at the University of Jos between 2004 and 2006, Prof. Ogunranti was honoured for his outstanding achievements in the field of Medical Sciences, especially human anatomy.

He was described at the event as a scholar whose attributes as an outstanding achiever of remarkable intelligence have continued to lead the way instead of following what others have done.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University and Cambridge in London, Prof. Ogunranti has already won several international awards in his remarkable profession. He is the brain behind the popular Electronic School of Medicine and the first to start an electronic medicine website (www.oluwoleorunranti.com) in the world.

This was in an addition to his existing Human Anatomy Museum (www.hamj.com) which was developed between 1992 and 1997. The two can teach virtually all areas of medicine on the web. Students can perform several laboratory experiments and learn to examine virtual patients on websites.
Reacting to the award in a letter made available to Unijos Echoonline, Prof. Ogunranti enjoined all the academic staff of the department and the entire University of Jos community to share in the joy saying, ‘’what belongs to me belongs to the University of Jos’’.

Prof. Ogunranti charged everyone in the academic field to prove his or her mettle in the pursuit of knowledge, as, according to him, the paramount question in the academic circle remains “what is your scholarly achievement?”
