The activities of fake students operating in higher institutions and participating in students unionism has been described as an ill which must be checked.

Coordinator, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Zone C, Comrade Henry James Pam, in a chat with Unijos Echoonline, described the situation as worrisome.

He said the involvement of  non students  in union activities on campuses was an act of desperation by some people who are seeking wealth and fortune.

He added that the situation has turned campuses into training grounds for thugs who are used by politicians during general elections and other activities in the country.

Pam further explained that these set of people who could not gain substantive foothold on the politics of the outside world parade themselves as student activists.

He said these people were causing more harm than good to the system by acting as recruits for politicians during election adding that this was giving the system a bad name and reputation.

He disclosed that the NANS Zone C was in this regard, planning a sensitization and awareness rally in which the issues and ways to move the zone higher would discussed.

The coordinator further explained that the Zone C which covers 10 states in the North and Middle Belt was determined to bring back the lost glory of unionism by helping students realise the purpose and importance of unionism.

He therefore called on all stakeholders in the education sector to put hands on deck to end the evil that had befallen unionism in tertiary institutions.
