‘FACE OF MASS COMM’ DONATES TO VISUALLY CHALLENGED STUDENTS

The reigning beauty queen of the Association of Mass Communication Students (AMCOMS), University of Jos has put smiles on the faces of visually challenged students of the department donating some items for their academic activities.

The ‘Face of Mass Communication’ (as the queen is called), Rhoda Ofeosi donated typing sheets and carbon papers which are materials needed by visually challenged students for their examinations.

Speaking at the brief presentation ceremony, Ofeosi said it was her own little way of identifying with this category of students and making them know that they are loved.

According to her, she felt her reign should not end without making any impact, a legacy she hopes to leave behind for those coming behind her.

“Being the ‘Face of Mass Communication’ is an opportunity to do what I can in my little way to make them feel loved and appreciated, which is the most important thing”, she told Unijos Echoonline in a chat.

She disclosed that she had a soft spot for this category of students adding that showing them love and care makes them feel good as they have always emphasized  “there is nothing really wrong with us”.

Ofeosi appealed to the department to provide typing sheets for the visually challenged students during examinations just like the answer booklets supplied to other students. She also enjoined fellow students in the department to encourage them in whatever way they can in their academic pursuit.

Responding on behalf of other recipients, Kenneth Echiche thanked the ‘Face of Mass Communication’ for the gesture and pleaded with the department to provide computers to facilitate learning saying they are all computer literate.

He stressed that they do not need sympathy but empathy and requested for more involvement in activities going on in the department through representation.
