Senate President, Others to be Honoured by Unijos Students

The Senate President of Nigeria, Senator David Mark is among distinguished Nigerian personalities to be given merit awards next week, by students of the Department of Religion and Philosophy, University of Jos.

Professor Umaru Danfulani, who is the Dean, Faculty of Art, disclosed this yesterday when the executive council of the students’ departmental association gave him a courtesy call briefing him on activities to be carried out during the department’s week slated for Monday, 10th – 16th September, 2012.

The Dean explained that Senator Mark deserves the award in view of his charismatic leadership and achievements in the senate adding that his choice was not in anyway hypocritical.

During the visit, the students’ through their Financial Secretary, Mr Habila Jet showered accolades on the Dean as well as the EXCO of the Departmental Association for advocating for positive changes within the department especially the adding of ‘Philosophy’ to the curriculum and the proposed change of title from “Religious Study” to “Religion and Philosophy”.

The students used the medium to call on the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) to expedite action as regards the change in name of the department.

The week is expected to feature the launch of the association’s magazine (3rd edition), a variety of events geared towards easing the tension of everyday academic engagements, while the award presentation draws the week to a close.
