The 200 level students of Mass Communication were on Friday crowned Champions of the 2011/2012 session HOD’s Cup after a 6-3 thrashing of the 300 level students in the finals played at the Abuja hostel field, University of Jos.

The second year students, led by their team captain Markus Rogji, took the battle to their opponents from the blast of the whistle to the delight of spectators who kept cheering all through.

Four goals in the first half by Philip Dingse were enough to upset the 300 level students as they played on with reluctance. In the second half, Mark Dajang increased the tally by scoring two goals. The 300 level students attempted to fight back into the game by cancelling three goals; however, by the end of 90 minutes, they were already shattered.

Speaking with echoonline, level coordinator of the winning side Mr. Francis Leman said he was impressed by the team’s performance adding that success has always been the reward for hard work.

Similarly, the Director of Sports Dennis Kataiko said, the HOD’s Cup is organised in order to foster unity among different levels in the department. He added that the awards given to players and victorious teams are to encourage them to work harder.

The event featured the Presentation of awards to Philip Dingse of 200 level as the highest goal scorer while Nathan Akasoime (300 level) was given the most valuable player award.

With this result, the 200 level class has successfully defended their title having won last year’s competition in the final match against 400 level when they were in 100 level.
