Wife of Benue State Governor, Architect Yemisi Dooshima Suswam will on Wednesday March 6, deliver a distinguished Special Guest Lecture on women empowerment at the Multipurpose Auditorium, Bauchi Road campus, University of Jos.
The lecture entitled ”Empowering Women for Leadership through Education” is an initiative of Jos Carnegie Partnership Committee (JCPC) in collaboration with Centre for Gender and Women Studies of the institution.
Echo Online learnt that Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Hayward Babale Mafuyai, will be the chief host of the occasion which will be under the chairmanship of the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Professor Shedrack Best.
Speaking on a live discussion feature on ICE FM UJ, Chair of the Jos Carnegie Partnership Committee, University of Jos, Dr. Patricia Lar said ”women have been grossly under-represented and their potentials underdeveloped”.
She said “the lecture will go a long way to bringing out the potentials in women, and showcase them as equals with their male counterparts in all spheres of human endeavour”.
She noted that what women need most is support and encouragement, and called on the general public to always support women in their efforts.
On his part, Chair of the Gender Intervention Team (GIT) of JCPC, Professor Thomas Bingel said that the theme of the lecture is a reflection of the university’s commitment to women education and empowerment, noting that University of Jos is a gender-sensitive and friendly institution.
