Benue State has emerged winners of the Peace and Unity Championship organized by the National Association of Ondo Students Association, University of Jos Chapter held at the J.T Useni Stadium of the institution.
The event started with a symposium during which distinguished individuals were given different awards. Those honoured included Dr. Mrs. Olubunmi Lar and Honourable Suleiman Kwande, member representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
About 24 state associations within the school took part in the ‘Peace and Unity Championship and the Benue State Students Association defeated Akwa Ibom 4-2 to emerge tops in the football competition.
The grand finale which witnessed a great turn out of students and invited guests, featured the third place football match between Nasarawa and Plateau states and the final.
Speaking on the occasion, President of National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), Unijos Chapter, Olusegun Akintade was full of gratitude to God for making the various activities a huge success.
He appreciated those who contributed in one way or the other to the success of the fiesta and specifically thanked the sponsors which included Globacom, the Special Task Force (STF), Indomie instant noodles, NUJ, NASCO among others.
In a chat with Echo Online, representative of Globacom at the event, Mr. Gabriel Okoh said the company is proud to be a part of the historic event. He said Unijos and Globacom have had successful collaborations in the past adding that Ondo Unijos 2013 is not an exception.
He, however urged other state associations and unions in the school to imitate the Ondo State association and do something remarkable which the school will continue to remember them for.
