UNIJOS INSTALLS NEW GADGETS TO BOOST SECURITY

​New gadgets are being mounted at strategic points in the University of Jos permanent site as part of efforts of the management to guarantee security in the institution.

The move, Echo Online gathered, is in response to the security situation in the country and includes the erection of screening doors at major entrances.

The Administrative Officer of the Directorate of Physical Facilities of the institution, Mr. Gabriel Maktu told Echo Online that “the safety of students in the school environment is our priority because we have them at heart”.

He said the installation of the security gadgets became necessary as a result of the insurgencies in the country adding that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Hayward Mafuyai deemed it fit to provide gadgets so that staff and students will feel safe while in school.

He said the installation of the gadget at the major entrance of the library building at the permanent site is because the building hosts one of the best libraries we have in Nigeria and the university could hot risk losing to any attack.

Maktu added that the machine will expose anything capable of tampering with the safety of students, lecturers, workers and other members of the university community.

He said although the new development may cause the students to queue before they get scanned they should consider it a worthwhile sacrifice because “there is nothing more than life”.

​He called on the students to be time conscious by coming to school at least 30 minutes before lecture time or other engagements and to cooperate with the security men to make the new measures work.
