VC REWARDS 200L MASS COMM STUDENT FOR DRAFTING HIS SPEECH

Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai has rewarded a 200 level student of Mass Communication, Emmanuel Ejike with a cash gift of N10,000 for taking up his challenge to draft a convocation speech for him.

Although the vice chancellor did not eventually make use of the speech drafted by the student, he was impressed by the standard of the draft coming from a student at that level. “It is evidence that the department is impacting the students”, he said after reading the draft.

Professor Mafuyai had during the Inauguration of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Students Chapter of the institution challenged the students to draft his speech for the then forthcoming convocation ceremony for him.

He promised then that he would select and present the one he considered to be the best at the Convocation and Ejike took up this challenge.

The cash reward of N10,000 was presented to the student by through Mr. Taye Obateru on b utilized the opportunity to encourage other students, especially in the department, to take up similar challenges.

In a chat with Unijos Echo Online, the Ejike said he felt honoured and fulfilled to be found worthy by the Vice Chancellor. “I have passion for writing, so I saw it as an opportunity to explore”, he said.
