The building complexes for the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences of the University of Jos currently under construction are to be completed soon.
The Faculty Officer for Arts, Mrs. Joyce Songden and that for Social Sciences, Mrs. Nansik Tyoden disclosed this in different interviews with Unijos Echo Online.
According to Tyoden, the development will go a long way in lessening the challenge of inadequate office and lecture spaces for the four departments under the faculty which she described as the most daring. The departments are Economics, Psychology, Sociology and Political Science.
On the idea of introducing dress codes for the students of the faculty, she said it would curb the problem of indecent dressing on campus.
“The adoption of dress codes do not only make students appear smart, it also establishes a sense of responsibility around them; therefore I strongly welcome the idea of dress codes in the faculty”, she said.
Similarly, Mrs. Songden said the faculty of arts building is now 95 per cent completed adding that students and staff of the faculty would soon relocate.
She said the project was aimed at addressing the problem of inadequate lecture halls and to further develop the permanent site.
On the recent clearance slips issued to students in the faculty, she said “the slip given to students now is a product of Students Audit which took place last year following a directive from National Universities Commission. It implies that anyone who does not have the slip has not been screened, hence is not a student of this institution”.
