UNIJOS FIXES CONVOCATION DATE • As 40th Anniversary Celebrations Climax • Set to Resume Issuance of Online Transcripts

In a bid to consolidate on the celebrations of the 40th anniversary, the Vice Chancellor University of Jos, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai has ushered in, yesterday a host of activities to be climaxed by the combined convocation ceremony on September 26.

Mafuyai disclosed this in a press briefing which took place at the Senate Chamber, Bauchi Road Campus of the institution.

Prof. Hayward said the celebration offers the institution an opportunity to assess and take stock of its achievement over the past forty years, as well as to present to the world the immense impact which the University has made on its immediate community, the nation and the world at large.

According to him, the briefing signaled the commencement of a host of activities that will climax with the 27th and 28th Combined Convocation Ceremony on Saturday 26th September, 2015.

In his words, “Out of a total number of 16,543 graduating students, 164 are being awarded Doctorate Degrees, 937 Masters Degrees and 197 Postgraduate Diplomas. Similarly, 13030 are graduating with First Degrees and 2091 are being awarded Diplomas while 48 will receive Certificates.

“Among those graduating with a First Degree, 29 have obtained Distinctions (First Class Degrees) while 1548 are in the Second Class Upper Degree bracket, 7860 in Second Class Lower Division, 2750 in Third Class and 520 in Pass Division”. He said.

The activities lined up for this memorial celebration are scheduled as follows:

  • Friday 18th September 2015 – Jumat Prayers Session at Unijos Mosque, Bauchi Road Campus.
  • Sunday 20th September, 2015 – Combined Thanksgiving Service at Chapel of Faith, Naraguta Campus.
  • Monday 21st September 2015 – Exhibition, Drama and Novelty Football Match.
  • Tuesday 22nd September 2015 – Founders Day Lecture on “One Hundred Years of Nigeria: The Place of Education and the Contribution of the University of Jos at Forty” by Prof. Chinedu Nnebo (Former Minister of Power). Unijos @ 40 book launch to be chaired by Mr. Godswill Obaigbena, Publisher of THISDAY Newspaper. Alumni Dinner @ Eliel Cnetre.
  • Wednesday 23rd September 2015 – Convocation Lecture “Cultivating Corruption: A Universal Cause and Its Ultimate remedy” by Prof.Tam David West.
  • Saturday 26th September 2015 – Investiture of new Unijos Chancellor/Convocation and conferment of Diplomas, Bachelors’ Degrees, Masters Degrees, Ph.Ds, and Honorary Degrees.

In the meantime, the University is set to resume the issuance of e-transcripts. This, according to the Vice Chancellor, will considerably ease the difficulties some graduates encounter when seeking to obtain transcripts.
