The Vice Chancellor of University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai has commended the Rotaract Club of the institution for donating items to the school clinic, pledging to support the members to continue the good work.

Mafuyai stated this at the donation of materials by the club to the university’s Health Centre. Represented by the Executive Director of the Advancement Office, Mr. Yakubu Gomos, the vice chancellor expressed satisfaction with the gesture stating, “most humans would rather take than give, just like the proverbial Oliver Twist. These students have however demonstrated that they prefer to give than to take.”

Making the donation, the President of the chapter of the club, Victoria Atai said the club took the initiative to support the clinic to enable them deliver quality service to students and staff of the university.

Receiving the materials, the Director of the university’s health centre, Dr. Linus Barki disclosed that it was the second time during his tenure as director that such gesture is extended to the clinic by the club.

“I am personally challenged by this gesture and I hope everyone in the society can be like members of this great club”, he stated.

He pointed out that the items donated would go a long way in easing their job by helping them to deliver efficient health services to the school community.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Rotgak Gofwen who was represented by Mrs. Anaayi Kirbadan-Numyel noted that the Rotaract Club is one of those bodies that have continued to make the office, which coordinates students’ activities, proud. She called on other student bodies to emulate the club by learning to give back to the society.

Also speaking, the President of the Rotary Club of Jos, Santos Larab, explained that the club has branches all over the country in two categories – rotary and rotaract.

According to him, “Rotaract is for students between the ages of 18 and 30 while Rotary is for adults from age 30 and above who are mostly in the working class”. He applauded the University of Jos chapter of the club and confessed his personal admiration for them.

He pleaded that the school authority should continue to support and encourage the student body.

Speaking to Unijos echoonline, the president of the club, stated that the essence of the club is to help humanity, adding, “most times when we visit, we notice that they have some challenges in carrying out their duty. So, we came together and concluded that this is a pressing need which we have to rise up and meet in our own little way”, she said.

The items donated included bed-sheets, blankets, pillow cases, buckets and mosquito nets.
