“The African culture goes beyond attires and clothing”. This was the submission of Prof. Joseph Mangut, guest speaker at the cultural day held by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Students’ Association (FAHSA).
The event showcased the diversity of the Nigerian and African cultural heritage among other things.
Chairman, planning committee, Anne Suwa said “the event was organized by the faculty through our cultural groups…we display diverse attires but we are all Nigerians. This signifies unity in diversity”.
In the special lecture for the event, Prof. Joseph Mangut, represented by Mr. Maram Mafulul, a lecturer in the department of Archaeology and Heritage studies stressed the need to go back to the original way of dressing and curing diseases while shunning the perceived inferior nature of the African culture.
He added that “the legislation must be made by government to ensure that African culture is embraced and preserved”.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, represented by Dr. Reuben Embu encouraged the students to socialise at the event and intermarry, adding that “anything can happen”.
