The academic staff of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has re-elected Prof. Iorapuu Tor as Dean for the next 2 years.

The election was conducted on the 13th of December 2016 at the Faculty of Arts Unity Hall during the 4th Faculty Board meeting of Prof. Tor’s first term administration.

Prof. Tor contested the Deanship alongside Prof. Isaac Lar of the Department of English Language and polled a total of 86 votes as against Prof. Lar’s 62 votes to emerge winner of the election. One vote was declared invalid.

Supervised by the Faculty Officer, Mr. Joseph Abimiku, the election was a secret ballot with departments of the Faculty taking turns to cast their votes.

The departments, led by the respective Head of Departments who also verified their staff, were Archaeology, English Language, Foreign Languages, History and International Studies, Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Mass Communication, Music, Religion and Philosophy and Theater and Film Arts.

Also, the Faculty representatives of Veterinary Medicine, Medical Science, Environmental Sciences, Law, Natural Sciences and Agriculture also cast their ballots.

In his brief acceptance speech, Prof. Tor of the Department of Theater and Film Arts thanked all academic staff for availing themselves for the Faculty Board meeting and the elections and declared that ‘One thing he will not comprise is laziness’. He also declared that within a week, he will set up a Faculty advisory committee to assist him move the Faculty forward.

Also during the election, Associate Prof. Nguvugher Chentu, of the Department of Religion and Philosophy was unopposed for the post of Deputy Dean.

Assoc. Prof. Chentu will take over from Reverend Assoc. Prof. Yoila Yilpet as Deputy Dean.

Prof. Tor was first elected as the Dean of Arts and Humanities on November 20th, 2014.
