The new Head of Department, Mass Communication, Associate Professor Victor Aluma, during his acceptance speech, said that the Department will be run by every staff.
He said this after his election as the 4th Head of Department of Mass Communication on the 2nd of May, 2017 at the departmental boardroom by 20 academic staff.
He equally thanked the staff “for the spirit” and added that he will lean on them for the smooth running of the Department.
The Deputy Dean of Arts, Associate Professor Chentu, who represented the Dean of Arts, Prof. Iorapuu Tor, in his opening speech disclosed to all academic staff present the reason for the gathering which was for the election of a new HoD.
The Faculty Officer of Arts, Mr. Jonathan Abimiku, read out the criteria for the election of a new Head of Department based on the ASUU-Federal Government 2013 agreement among which the contestants must be senior lecturers and 75% of the academic staff of the Department must vote among others.
After the confirmation that 75% of staff were present for the voting, all 20 votes cast were in favor of Associate Professor Victor Aluma after counting by Mr. Abimiku and confirmation by Associate Professor Chentu.
The Deputy Dean congratulated Associate Professor Victor Aluma on behalf of the Dean and admonished staff to “make his work easy” for the next two years.
A one minute silence was held in honor of the late HoD, Associate Professor John Galadima, who died from internal injuries after a motor accident in October 2016.
Associate Professor Victor Ayedun-Aluma is the fourth Head of Department following the establishment of the Department in 2008.
His predecessors are Professor Christiana Best, Dr. Sarah Lwahas and the late Associate Professor John Galadima.
