The University of Jos students’ football team beat their opponents, the university staff team two goals to nil in a novelty match organized to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sebastian Seddi Maimako.
The VC is his opening speech before the commencement of the match thanked God and the entire university community (staff and students) for making the University a better learning environment.
He said their challenges have been able to be solved together and called on the Sports Committee to regularly organize matches like this to ease the stress of work; one of which should be between management and staff.
He also unveil the plans of the University to officially receive the staff team that represented the institution in Kaduna and brought home silverware and the students at NUGA who did the Institution proud at the University of Agriculture, Markurdi.
He finally called on all to key into the institutions policy of performance, prosperity and happiness.
The Chairperson of the university Sports Committee, Mr. Nanle, in his remarks, made known some of the achievements of the Sport Committee under this administration which includes: sponsorship for NUGA preliminary games in Gombe State where the Institution qualified for the NUGA proper, and bringing home trophies in all the games the Institution took part in at NUGA and the crowning of the University of Jos as the overall best in the country.
“This has given the Institution the privilege of hosting the first ever Nigerian universities tennis championship come next year and qualification to represent the country in the coming world universities games. Some of the challenges bedeviling the Institution sports sphere is the lack of coaches and pitches for certain sporting activities”.
In conclusion, Nanle, called on the University to reward those contingents that made the University proud in the just concluded NUGA games in Markurdi.
The dignitaries present at the event include the DCV Academics, Prof. Nelson Ochekpe, the registrar Monday Danjem, the deans of the faculty of arts and medical sciences, the University of Jos ASUU Chairperson, professors and many other staff and students of the institution.
