UNIJOS TO HOST NUTAF 2018 AS VC ASSURES TOTAL SUPPORT

University of Jos has won the hosting right for the upcoming Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Festival (NUTAF) scheduled to hold from Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th April, 2018 after scoring 76% against Plateau State University Bokkos who were graded 61%.

This was made known to stakeholders by the Chairman, Board of Trustees Professor Emmanuel Dandaura at the end of the 7th National NUTAF stakeholder’s roundtable held at Naraguta Campus of the University of Jos on Friday 24th November 2017.

Earlier before the commencement of the roundtable, the stakeholders led by its Chairman Board of Trustees and the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Tor Iorapuu paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sebastian Maimako in his office.

The Vice-Chancellor, while thanking them for the visit assures them of the University’s readiness to partner with them if given the hosting right.

Also with the Vice-Chancellor were the DVC Administration, Professor Theresa Nmadu, the university Librarian, Dr. Stephen Akintunde among others.

The Head of Department Theatre and Film Arts, University of Jos, Professor Emma Idoko while appreciating the stakeholders for the success recorded, emphasized the need for symbiotic relationship among lecturers, practitioners and the students.

NUTAF is an annual cultural festival organised by the Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Students Association (NUTASA) in collaboration with Board of Trustees and all former members of the association.

Shortly after the visit to the Vice-Chancellor, a lecturer of the department and Students’ Adviser, Dr. Victor Anyagwu took the delegations of students on an assessment tour led by NUTASA National President Comrade Egbo Kaosisochukwu beginning from the Open Air Theater of the University, indoor theater, all the hostels, the editing studio, students social centres, restaurants, production studio and parking garage of the university.

Comrade Egbo Kaosisochukwu expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground and thanked students and management of the university for hosting the 7th Stakeholders Roundtable. He promised to conduct a free and fair election that will usher in New Excos to run the national association for the next one year.

UnijosEcho gathered that NUTASA was established in 1982 and currently has over 26 registered institutions across the country as members including University of Jos, Plateau State University Bokkos, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Federal University Lafia, Niger Delta University, University of Nigeria Nssuka among others.

Furthermore, University of Jos hosted the maiden edition of NUTAF in 1982 and will be hosting it for the 4th time in 2018.

Over 64 Professors of Theatre and film arts are expected to be in attendance.
