The clerk of Students’ Union Government (SUG) House of Parliament University of Jos, Hon. Peter Ibrahim Guluhun has urged students to take responsibility for a safe and healthy learning environment.
Hon. Guluhun made this statement during a one-day skill acquisition training and sensitization to mask up against the surging coronavirus.
The event was held at the Students’ Village Hostel Cafeteria, Naraguta Campus University of Jos on the 13th of February, 2021.
The event which drew students from the various faculties in the institution was tagged “Mask up UniJos: Social Responsibility as a Sine Quo Non to Safe and Healthy Environment”.
Hon. Guluhun stated that there is a great need for students to mask up and take responsibility to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus by putting their face mask correctly, sanitizing their hands with hand sanitizers and observing social distancing.
He also stated that the carelessness of one person can be everybody’s problem. He stressed the need for students to seriously observe the protocols as coronavirus is real and exists.
In a remark by the chairperson of the occasion, Senator Tashi Manasseh of the Faculty of Arts Constituency and the initiator of the Healthy Environment Campaign tagged “Operation Keep FASA Clean”, he appreciated the Clerk of the SUG House of Parliament for his selfless contribution to the growth of the Union.
Senator Manasseh also applauded the parliamentarian for pushing forward to organize the event to help train the students to entrepreneurs for the skills they acquired. He urged the students to seize this opportunity to learn from the training because it will help some to earn a living.
As part of the event, students were taught how to make hand sanitizers and liquid hand-wash. The training was done by Nenky’s World Organization. The practicals started from the identification of the chemicals, the formation process and the packaging process. Items made were given to participants of the training as an appreciation for their commitment to attend the program.
