The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Ishaya Tanko, has commissioned the newly completed 72 Capacity Male and Female hostel of the university.
The VC said the university is discussing with the government and individuals to partner with the University for the Provision of more accommodation for the students. According to the Vice Chancellor, “Our heart desire is that very soon we will reach a point where we can be able to accommodate if not forty but twenty to thirty per cent of students in the university.
Prof. Ishaya said the University must protect its facilities and also called on the Department of Physical Facilities to always maintain projects.
The VC also commended the hard work of the contractors in delivering a standard project to the university without compromise.
Ishaya called on students who would be occupying the new hostel to be mindful of how they utilise the facility because most times the facility is handed but after a year the facility may have been destroyed in one way or the other.
The event which took place at the building of the newly completed hostel had in attendance Deans of various faculties, Speaker of the UniJos SUG House of Parliament Prosper Lakai, Student Union Government President Joshua Adankala, the Chief Security Officer of the university Rtd Colonel Godfrey Chembap among others.
A highlight of the event includes the handing over of the keys to the newly completed hostel to the Chief Security Officer of the University, Colonel Godfrey Chenbap (RTD).
The event ended with closing remarks and prayers from the Chief Imam of the University Mosque Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf.
