ELECTRICITY BLACKOUT IN NARUGTA AND ZION HOSTELS SPIKE THEFT

Electricity is one of the most important blessings that science has given to mankind. It has also become a part of modern life, and one cannot think of a world without it.

Electricity has a lot of advantages, especially in the learning environment. Students need light to carry out their day-to-day activities in the hostel.

The unknown cause of the Naraguta transformer blast which happened during the strike resulted in a total Electricity blackout at the Naraguta and Zion hostels respectively. The blackout further caused vandalism due to the absence of students.

Major electric cables like the armoured cables were stolen, which further worsened the situation. The lack of power supply to the hostels paved the way for incessant theft cases.

Various female students were robbed and lost vital belongings.
The SUG had a round table with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Ishaya Tanko and the Chief Security Officer, Rtd. Colonel Godfrey Chenbap with other school administrators which resulted in immediate repairs.

A few days later, the school electricians and staff of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) were seen working relentlessly to restore power in Naraguta and Zion hostel respectively.

Power was first restored in Zion hostel, which gave Naraguta hostel a semblance of hope. The school Management has also ensured the availability of maximum security at all hostels to ensure the safety of the hostel occupants.
