The University of Jos is one of the few universities that understand the importance hostel accommodation plays in the lives of its students. For the institution, to better achieve higher academic performance, there should be conducive hostel accommodation for learning.
The female students just like their male counterparts have been allocated parts of the hostel which suit them. Zion hostel happens to be the only hostel completely allocated to female students with the capacity of accommodating more than 100 female students from block A to block B. Zion hostel is in form of a square building where students face each other and it also has the middle ground where students gather for meetings.
The hostel accommodation fee is structured in the order of facilities and convenience made available. The fee ranges from the number of students a room can accommodate which could be 4, 3, 2 or a single room. Aside from its cost benefits, the other benefits include giving students the best campus life experience and meeting new people including funny, annoying, intelligent and all kinds of personalities.
A female student who resides in the Zion hostel said she loves the hostel because it has increased her level of responsibility. She sleeps soundly at night not being scared of rape although she has also complained about the poor facilities, lack of water and a dirty environment.
In conclusion, Zion hostel is one of the best hostels at the University of Jos because it’s a security check at the gate, boys are not allowed to go into the hostel and this gives the girls a sense of security, they also have a particular time at which the gate is locked thereby preventing movement to and fro.
