The university of Jos resumed its academic activities on the 20th of March 2023 immediately after the 2023 General elections.
However, the university recorded a poor turn out by students since resumption compared to previous resumptions and that, has affected the proper commencement of lectures.
Some students on campus expressed their fears, stating that such situation is behind the unnecessary rush by some lecturers towards the end of the semester to cover up the syllabus for the semester.
Daksun Habila, a 300 level student of the department of mass communication stated, “I feel the recent cashless policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria is one of the factors responsible for the poor resumption of the students because parents still struggle to raise cash for their wards as pocket money and other needs while in school”,
He further stated that although the elections were violent free in most part of the country, some parents are still skeptical about the security of their children.
Amidts all these, some students on campus think late resumption is a normal phenomenon as most students feel activities on campus will not be serious in the first week of resumption.
Abdulaziz Muhammadu, a 400 level student of the department of sociology department expressing his fears said “My concern is we will run short of time because this second semester has already lost some valuable time and we need to catch up”.
Recall that tertiary institutions in Nigeria have struggled and are still struggling to adjust their calenders due to the corona virus pandemic and the eight months ASUU strike.
