The Federation of Igbo Students Association (FISA), University of Jos chapter, launched its first edition magazine titled “The Roots Magazine” on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Aliyu Doma Indoor Theatre, University of Jos.
The magazine “The Roots Magazine” also carried a subheading in Igbo, “Ndi Igbo na Agbataabi ha,” meaning “An insight into the world of the Igbo community.”
The aim of the magazine is to enable the Igbo students to understand their identity and to also promote the Igbo culture within and outside the University.
The magazine encompasses everything about the Igbo culture: how it started, who they are, and what they stand to represent.
The magazine focused on educating the Igbo students on the values of their culture and the need to embrace them in the learning environment.
Speaking with one of the Magazine committee members, Adaobi Cynthia Ezenwedu, the advertising and Content Editor, she expressed her delight in God for making the Magazine launch a success. She also lamented that the Igbo students are ignoring their culture and noted that the magazine launch is to enable Igbo students to know the values of their culture and to also embrace it wherever they are. “I must express my gratitude to God for seeing us through the event. It’s pathetic that the Igbo students are no longer interested in cultural activities, and the magazine launch is to help educate the Igbo students on their values and the need to embrace them with pride” she said.
