The Department of Mass Communication, University of Jos welcomed members of the National University Commission (NUC) for its accreditation exercise at the Naraguta campus in Jos.
Team lead of the accreditation exercise, Prof Sunny Udeze said the exercise is pivotal to ensure that universities are accredited in order to meet the required standards.
According to him “Accreditations are important. It is essential that we as a body are delegated to come and cross-check the department and its structure to ensure that they meet the standard requirement of the NUC. The process is a long one, as we would have to vet all classrooms, the curriculum, proper use of studio equipment, exams materials and interact with the student journalists involved in all the duties as a department”
The Head, Department of Mass Communication, Associate Professor Godfrey Danaan expressed his excitement on the exercise. He said, “I am delighted to welcome the team from NUC to the University of Jos, and the Department of Mass Communication. It is an honor in my time as the serving HoD to be graced with this and I am proud to showcase what the department has, as well, as what the University, our alumni, and other meaningful Nigerians have contributed to the success of this exercise”.
As part of the accreditation exercise, the NUC team was taken on a tour of facilities in the department which include the broadcast studios, the PRAD Lab, the library, classroom, offices amongst others.
Other members of the NUC visitation panel include Prof. Kolade Ajilore from Babcock University and Aliyu Abdul Jalal, a representative of NUC.
On ground to receive the accreditation team were Prof. A.U. Enahoro, Associate Professor Taye Obateru (Immediate Past Head of Department), Dr. Francis Leman, Dr. James Ashiekpe, Mr. Mabas Akila (Exams Officer), Mr. Jimme Matyek (Timetable Officer), amongst others.
