SLT 8th Induction: UniJos Vice-Chancellor Urges Graduates to Impact Humanity Positively

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya has admonished the graduates of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) to transfer the training received in the course of their programme to impact humanity positively.

Professor Tanko made this statement while addressing the Inductees in his speech which was delivered by Professor Patricia Wole during the SLT induction.

The induction which took place at the Unijos multi-purpose Auditorium, Bauchi Road campus, had in attendance Important personalities, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, who was represented by Professor Patricia Wole, Dean and members of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and members of staff from the SLT department.

The Director-General, Registrar, and CEO of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Mr Yemi Hezekieh Gbadegesin, who administered the oath, labelled the graduates as “the new ambassadors of the profession.” He urged strict adherence to the oath and emphasised commitment to the Code of Ethics.

Commending the academic milestone achieved, the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Nestor M. D. Chagok, praised the dedication of the inductees to the SLT profession.

Also speaking at the event was the Head of the Department, Dr Longtong G. Turshak also congratulated the graduates and urged them to obtain their licences and practice ethically.

During the ceremony, academic excellence was recognized, with Ochayi Blessing Laden and Andrew Simdi Tungdet graduating with First Class Honors with CGPAs of 4.75 and 4.54, respectively.

In an interview, Laden attributed her success to a “positive mindset, hard work, dedication, reading, and prayer,” expressing her passion for research.

One of the Inductee who pleaded anonymity has expressed his Joy and gratitude for his new status.

“I’m happy that I have finally achieved the status of a graduate”, he said.

The 2020/2021 induction and oath-taking ceremony marked the eighth of its kind for the Department of Science Laboratory at the University of Jos, Plateau State, with 142 students inducted.

Mr. Yami, Registrar of NISLT, has commended the effort of the management towards making the program a success.

“I commend the hard work and dedication of the Vice-Chancellor, his team, and the staff of the Department of Science Lab Technology. They’ve shown a strong commitment to the success of this program”, he said.
