UNIVERSITY OF JOS: Department of Computer Science welcomes the NUC Team for Accreditation

The Department of Computer Science, University of Jos on Thursday welcomed members of the National University Commission (Nuc) for its accreditation Exercise.

The NUC team on arrival at the Main campus was received by the deputy vice-chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Rahila Plagnan Gowon. Alongside the director of academic planning, Liberian, the Bursar, and other staff from the university.

The team is made up of a three-member committee headed by Professor Obikwelu Okonkwo a professor from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, alongside other admirable scholars from several different universities began the accreditation exercise on Friday. Which was led by the head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof N.V Blamah, Dr. Nentawe Gurumdimma, Dr. Godwin Thomas – Post Graduate Coordinator, and Dr Yinka Oyerinde to inspect the department facilities and services which includes; The Software and hardware laboratories, classrooms, staff offices, ICT’s, admission requirements among others within the departments.

Professor Uche Emmanuel, a member of the accreditation team has described their visit as a way of ensuring the quality of programs offered in the university following the NUC Standard.

“The essence of the accreditation visit is to ensure that universities comply with the standard of NUC so that quality is assured for the program and also for the overall benefit of the students and the institution”, Professor Rahila Plagnan Gowon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics said.

Speaking to Professor N.V Blamah, The Head of the Department of Computer Science, he explained that Accreditation is an exercise that ensures that academic standards are maintained.

Furthermore, He said the purpose of the exercise is to ensure that the department is delivering the content as expected and also to make sure all the necessary facilities are on the ground so that the students in the program can get the required quality education that is expected.
