The Plateau State Law Students Association (PLALAWSA) has kicked off the 2nd edition of its legal advocate summit tagged: Navigating the Emerging trends in the legal landscape”.

The summit which began on Thursday aims at giving insight into the implementation and control of technology as a trend to achieve a stable and balanced legal space.

Speaking at the event, Mr Joseph Lakai who represented the guest speaker Muntasir Muhammad Adamu Esq alongside Honourable Ibrahim Pam Esq, emphasized the importance of staying updated on the recent development in the law industry. He highlighted that the practice of law is slowly moving from analog to digital and technology is now rapidly shaping the future.

He said “We are already in an era where everything has been arranged to our advantage, an era where you can navigate the presiding cases you want to be involved in. However, this shouldn’t be an avenue to be lazy, but rather to gain an edge.”

Lakai noted that the judiciary system is also evolving from strictly filing paperwork during court proceedings to adopting an electronic model.

Furthermore, he urged the students to always be prepared for whatever task lies ahead.

“Wherever we find ourselves as practitioners, be it a counsel or a secretary, as long as we are legal practitioners, it should not be out of place for us to brace ourselves with the use of technology. This is because technology has come in to ease the work of lawyers establishing itself as one of the areas we all can take advantage of and make ourselves useful.”

Similarly, Panlong Johnson, the president of the association told  Unijos Echo that the executive committee had thought it wise to build on the topics which will expose them as lawyers to exploring opportunities using the roles of sensitization for them to be kept abreast of happenings in the society.
