NAMINES pioneers Campus hygiene revitalisation in Mining Department

The Nigerian Association for Mining Engineering Students (NAMINES), UniJos Chapter, has become a touchstone of campus hygiene given its recent display of interest in community health and social well-being through the installation of waste bins in every hall, dusters for each course representative and mirrors to be strategically placed at different corners within the department.

The newly elected president of the Mining Department, Timkuk Benedict, emphasized the transformative power of student-led initiatives to enable an environment that will not only accelerate academic growth but bring about personal development.

He said “Our goal is to create an environment that not only supports academic growth but also nurtures personal development”, The installation of waste bins, dusters, and mirrors serves as a testament to our commitment to excellence”.

Amidst these changes, Dr. Kayode Iduwo, the Head of Department (HOD) of the Mining Engineering, shared insights into NAMINES’ impact explaining that the initiatives underscores the department’s dedication to holistic development.

  “Their efforts not only enhance the physical environment but also foster a culture of responsibility and pride among students.”

Ahgu Jesse, a 200 level student of the department said that the mirrors have become more than reflective surfaces because they symbolize the department’s commitment to self-improvement and progress.

This new development symbolizes our commitment to self-improvement and progress”. He said.

 Also, Sophie Shargwi, a 200 level student of the department said that the waste bins showcase a dedication to a cleaner and more organized environment.

NAMINES  believes the initiative is to set the pace for other departments to follow, proving that student-led initiatives can have a lasting impact on the campus community. The mirrors and waste bins according to association are more than just physical additions; they represent a collective effort towards creating a better, more vibrant academic environment within the University of Jos’ Mining Department
