Unijos holds orientation program for 2022/2023 academic session

The University of Jos has held an orientation program for the newly admitted students of the 2022/2023 academic session at the Red Chamber Hall, Faculty of Social Sciences themed “Youth, Religion and the fight against corruption”.

Sequel to this development, the Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of academic, Rehila Plangnan Gowon, called on all newly admitted students to imbibe the spirit of discipline and be dedicated to their studies.

In the same vein, Rejoice Songden, the institution’s Registrar, emphasized on the University’s code of conduct. She revealed that several principal offices are readily available to protect and watch over misconducts by students.

However, the guest speaker, Professor Ishmael Ogboru, a lecturer in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, noted that the religious life of many students was very poor. He encouraged students to set goals and abstain themselves from corruption, examination malpractice, cultism, prostitution, and many more.

Similarly, the keynote speaker, DSC Abdulrahaman Babakano Aliyu, Commander, EFCC Abuja Zonal Command, stated some of the criminal activities often executed by University students as cybercrime, embezzlement, examination malpractice, cultism, stealing, fighting, drugs abuse among others. He cautioned the students to abstain from such acts.

Okpunyi Faith Joseph, a 100 level student of the Department of Mass Communication, revealed that she had benefited from the orientation program.

She said “the program established a guide enabling us to know the right path to follow. It unveiled some detrimental acts that cannot be entertained by the institution”.
