The Jural Court of the Law Students Society, University of Jos chapter, is set to begin its University Law Exchange Programme on the 4th of April 2024.

The Programme will feature an array of academic excursions to various institutions such as the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Court of Appeal, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Baze University and diverse law firms among others.

The Programme which is an initiative of the Advocate General of the Faculty of Law and Head of the Jural Court of  Law Students Society, Olivia Azi, is aimed at exposing law students of the University to a wider and more in-depth world of the law profession.

Referring to the programme as one with positive impact and also a step to reform this process, the Head of Equity Chambers, Faculty of Law, Aimee Luke says the Jural Court Unijos Chapter seeks to offer students the benefits of active practical learning with academic visits to different locations of legal engagements (JULEP). This will provide them with a direct participation that includes interactive sessions with senior members of the bar and bench.

Aimee further highlighted that the idea for the exchange programme was born out of a quest for a more developed city where the law is always in motion and affirming that the law space is a highly competitive one that requires the need to change the current relaxed mindset of students towards law and boost their morale in order to get accustomed with the way things are done in more developed cities.

She also noted that on a more expansive scale, getting jobs at the best legal organizations takes a lot of hard work and excellence and that is exactly what they hope to incorporate in the students with the help of JULEP. She said “Our strong belief is that it will impact the drive of students in jos city and help them focus towards the profession in its entirety”.

Similarly, the secretary General, Faculty of law, Jeremiah Tumba John explained that the Jural Court is looking beyond just gaining access to these law firms but to provide an avenue for networking among undergraduate students.

“This programme will provide an avenue where live interactive sections and proceedings can flow freely to the benefit of the students,” he stated.

The two day programme will also feature the activity of debates during visits to other universities to create an interchangeable learning environment.
