The Department of Mass Communication 300-level male football team has defeated their 100-level counterpart one-nil to advance to the Head of Department (HOD) Cup final.
The match held at the PG Hostel Pitch started with high intensity, with both teams aiming for dominance over each other to secure their place in the highly anticipated final.
In a dramatic turn of events, 300 level’s forward, Longwus Pesaan, broke the deadlock in the first half with a beautifully executed shot to send their energetic supporters into a frenzy.
Despite controlling possession for most of the second half, the 300-level team couldn’t convert the plethora of begging goal scoring opportunities to put the game beyond the reach of the 100 level team.
The 100 level team grew into the game towards the end of the match with counter attacking play but failed to hit target as 300 level claimed the victory to advance to the final against 400 level who also won their tie against 200 level.
In a display of sportsmanship, Benjamin Okoja, a 100 level player, congratulated the victors and expressed his team’s determination to return stronger next year.
Longwus Pesaan, the winning goal scorer , acknowledged the upcoming challenge against the 400-level team, a team his side couldn’t defeat in the last year’s final. “It is going to be another interesting match-up against the team that defeated us last year, but Pinnacles team has resolved not to settle for less this time around,’’ he enthused.
The final between the 300-level and 400-level has been slated to take place on Friday 19th, 2024.
