The 300-level male football team of the Department of Mass Communication defeated the 400-level male football team 3-0 to claim the Head of Department’s male football trophy.
The match which began with a whirlwind of attacks from both sides, saw deadlock broken in the 20th minute, when 300 level’s Timothy Daleng pile driver from 30 yards out was fumbled into the net by 400 level’s Goalkeeper to give the Pinnacles the early lead.
The 400-level ‘Elite’ pressed for an equalizer mounting pressure with flurry of attacks on the 300 level’s defence, but indecisiveness in the final third saw the team miss a lot of goal scoring opportunities.
The 300 level however build momentum and double their lead in the 35th minute when Timothy Daleng squared the ball for Kambu to slot beyond the reach of the goal-keeper.
The significant advantage rattled the 400-level team as they struggled to find their rhythm before the first half ended with a 2-0 score-line in favor of the 300 level team.
The intensity of the match reached climax in the second half when Dodos, an emerging football star from the 300 level, scored another goal for his team.
However, controversy ensued as the 400 level team disputed the validity of the goal, leading to a tense moment on the field.
Amidst escalating tensions, the referee intervened, ultimately deciding to cancel the goal after deliberation with officials.
Despite the setback, the 300 level team displayed remarkable resilience. Dodos, determined to make amends, found the back of the net once again late in the match, securing a decisive 3-0 victory for his team.
The final whistle blew, sending the 300 level supporters into a frenzy and officially crowning them the new AMCOM’s HOD Football Cup champions.
Reflecting on the match, players from both teams commended their opponents’ skills and teamwork, acknowledging the competitive spirit that defined the encounter.
In post-match interviews, Sani Haarith, a 400-level player, acknowledged the “well executed strategies” of the 300 level players.
Similarly, Bukata Dodos, a 300-level player, commended the collective effort of his teammates in securing the win.
The victory served as a testament not only to the talent within the department but also to the spirit of friendly competition and camaraderie that defines the AMCOM’s week-long festivities. It was a moment that united students in their shared passion for football, creating a memorable highlight that will be cherished for years to come.
