The University of Jos Biological Conservatory, Anastasio Paul Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI), yesterday celebrated its 20th anniversary and marked the occasion by launching the AP Leventis Ornithological Research Center for Excellence (APLORCE).
The event held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Indoor Theater, University of Jos permanent site, also heralded the commencement of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme, showcasing the institution’s continued dedication to ornithological research and conservation.
The program which was tagged, “Here,There and Back: the Intra-African Migration Story of the Woodland Kingfisher” enlighten the participants on migration, connecting it with the history of APLORCE.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof Tanko Ishaya, acknowledged the APLORI’s success recorded in the last two decades and unveiled the new Senate approved name of APLORI as Anastasio Paul Leventis Ornithological Research Center for Excellence (APLORCE).
He further announced the commencement of a PhD program for the Anastasio Paul Leventis Ornithological Research Center for Excellence (APLORCE).
Dr Samuel Temidayo Osinubi, the guest speaker, delved into the rich history of APLORCE during his address. He revealed that APLORCE was first established in 2001 in Zaria, but had since expanded its reach to numerous countries across the globe.
He further acknowledged and thanked Anastasio Paul Leventis, the founder of APLORCE and others who paved a path for him and others to follow.
Mallam Bello Dan- mallam, a research associate at the Unijos APLORCE, appreciated everyone who made the event a reality and urged the appropriate authorities leading the APLORCE to maintain the standard.
