The Nigerian Universities Education Association (NUESA), University of Jos chapter held a business seminar tagged “The Benefits of Women in Leadership” at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Indoor Theater, Faculty of Arts, University of Jos Permanent site.
The event provided insights on the transformative impact of gender diversity in leadership roles, hence underscored the multiple benefits of having women in positions of influence and authority.
The Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Her Excellency, Honorable Josephine Piyo, represented by Mr. Alex Kundang, the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, emphasized the significance of inclusive leadership.
He said, “Her Excellency considered this occasion an opportunity to share her ideology with the female students and to unveil the numerous benefits of having women in leadership. The benefits are vast and far-reaching, as women bring unique perspectives, skill sets and approaches into leadership in ways that help organizations thrive and make better decisions to foster a more inclusive and reputable work environment. We can realize full potential with women as leaders and build a just and prosperous society for all.”
In the same vein, Mrs. Abigail Humbe, the CEO and Founder of Grant Africa, emphasized the tangible benefits of gender-balanced boards and management teams. She remarked, “Leadership is an influence, it is a refined talent. When you step out, people won’t just recognize you but feel your impact in their lives.”
Mrs Milcah Joy Polycarp, the Vice President of NUESA presented awards to the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, and the CEO of Grant Africa in appreciation for helping people achieved their goals through mentorship and training.
Furthermore, Dr. Victoria S. Jatau, a Commissioner of Teachers Service Commission highlighted that empowering women isn’t just about lifting individuals, but elevating the entire community and unlocking new possibilities for growth and progress.
She said the seminar serves as a catalyst for change—a reminder that the benefits of women in leadership are not only attainable but essential for a brighter and equitable future.
Humble Kums, a 300 level student of Sociology, said “Having women in leadership positions brings significant benefits to organizations across various dimensions. Women in leadership can contribute to better employee engagement and retention.”
She added that when women hold leadership roles, they serve as role models and mentors for other women in the organization.
The seminar concluded with a resounding call to action: “As we continue to champion gender equality in leadership, let us heed the wisdom shared by our speakers and embrace the transformative power of diversity.”
