As the vibrant campus of the University of Jos buzzes with academic pursuits, there’s a special event happening within the Faculty of Arts that demands attention and participation from all FASAITES. The Faculty of Arts Student Association (FASA) has launched its annual Faculty Week, a celebration of connectivity, diversity, and sociability among students.
From April 29th to May 4th, 2024, FASA/FYB Week promises a plethora of activities aimed at reuniting FASAITES and creating memorable experiences beyond the confines of the classroom.
Speaking with Unijos Echo Joy Izang, the Welfare Secretary of FASA, underscores the essence of this week-long festivity, stating, “FASA Week originally aims to reunite FASAITES, fostering connectivity, fun, and exploration of different diversities to unite the faculty. It offers a wholesome campus experience, away from the usual class routine.”
One of the highlights of this year’s Faculty Week is a special women’s program, scheduled for Saturday. This event serves as a platform for female students to bond and address pertinent women’s issues within the faculty. Joy Izang emphasizes the significance of this program in fostering solidarity among female students and creating a supportive environment for dialogue and empowerment.
Moreover, Sanni-Haarith Omobodunde, the Auditor General of the Faculty, advocates for active participation from students, citing its importance as a stepping stone for those aspiring to engage in campus elections.
“Participating in Faculty Week provides a leadway, particularly for students seeking to make an impact and take on leadership roles within the campus community”, he said.
In addition to fostering social connections and addressing pertinent issues, Faculty Week offers a platform for students to explore their interests and talents beyond academics. The administration has curated a diverse lineup of activities, including corporate day/Dean’s cup kick-off, old school day, networking sessions, and cultural showcases, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy and engage with.
As FASA Faculty Week continues to unfold, it serves as a reminder of the power of community and collective engagement in enriching the campus experience. By actively participating in this celebration of unity and diversity, FASAITES not only strengthen bonds with their peers but also contribute to a vibrant and inclusive campus culture that values collaboration, dialogue, and personal growth.
