ADSSU organises first ever Medical Outreach Program

The Adamawa State Students Union (ADSSU), University of Jos chapter, has demonstrated their commitment to improving the health outcomes of its members by organizing a groundbreaking medical outreach program at the Church of the Brethren headquarters in Jos.

The event  which was a resounding success, received accolades from student members who term it as humanitarian gesture aimed at improving Peoples’ healthcare .

The President of the association, Moyeno Joel Joseph, a final year student of Medicine and Surgery, said, “My people perish due to lack of knowledge”. Most people don’t know how to protect themselves and keep themselves healthy. The outreach aims to create awareness on Hepatitis B and to also check students’ blood pressure, weight and sugar level”.

He revealed that the outreach was organised due to prevalent rate of Hepatitis B in the North-East in Nigeria. “We consider it appropriate to organize the outreach as People of the North-East Nigeria are prone to liver disease cause by Hepatitis B, due to the kind of lifestyle they live”.

Edith, a 300 level student of English education heaped praises on the association president for the brilliant initiative. “I thank our able president who thought of such a nice idea. Although there is not enough money, he still made this possible. I am also happy because I know my health status and I was given the right advice on how to take care of my health”.

Desmond Zavanza Peter, a member of the association, also expressed his appreciation for the outreach.  “It’s been a long time since I did any health test because I never saw reasons to. Thank God for this outreach, I now know the importance of this test”

Mrs Grace Danladi, a member of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, expressed her joy and thanked the association for the initiative. “I’m happy to see students who are struggling but could come up with such an initiative. I appreciate the President and every member of the association” she said.
