TRAIN TO EXCELLENCE; UNIVERSITY OF JOS’ HUMAN RESOURCE DIVISION

University of Jos was established with the vision of being an innovative institution with great interaction between town and ground. The University of Jos started as a campus of the university of ibadan in November, 1971. With the appointment of professor E.A Ayandele as it’s first acting principal. And first students where admitted in January 1972, as pre-degree students and first bachelor in Arts degree program began in oct, 1973.

The Human resources division HR has being in existence and fully up to task and ensuring smooth running of the institution since the establishment of the university. Human resource which is also an arm registry under registrar’s Office.

In an interview with Mr Ishaya Daben Senior Deputy Registrar, Senior Staff Establishment. He outline the role of the Human resource such as providing the institution  with better Human power to ensure the smooth administration of the university.

Also advertising vacancies in the institution inviting qualify applicant to apply, and they will be screened properly by human resource division. Again he added that Human resource division is the foundation of the university hence they provide all necessary man-power for active being of the institution.

Furthermore, Human Resource Division also contribute to the overall strategic goals of the university, as they checked and screen qualify applicant that will Serve the purpose of need. In a separate interview with the Administrative Officer, Senior Staff Establishment Mr Kenneth Dabang.

In his words “appointment of staff is strategic even though is the vice Chancellor VC,  appoint but we are the screteriat  that will help him in checking the qualification of the staff to know where they will be placed” He also shared personal experience in the various activities of the department. He said staffing has being tasky as since 2019 the university has not employed staffs, lack of equipment such as computers as some of the problem in the human resource division.

More to that, MR Keneth Dapang, also affirm that Human resource division Ensure compliance with regulation, requirements and labour market laws. Stating that the federal institution have its own regulation. To ensure adherence , staff are aware of the regulation to get aquinted to, what to do and what not to do, if failed decipline action is taken to ensure compliance. As quoted.

“We follow due process base on the laws of the country all staff issues are being handled, following the due process in an, in relation or in compliance with Labour laws. That is why we have process of termination of appointment, Also give staff necessary fair hearing to ensure he/she is actually guilty of whatever offence before he/she  appointment will be terminated or dismiss, there is a process”.

Human resource division also oversee and charge all staffs in carrying out there respected duties, stating it clearly during appointment and employment of applicants. In an interview with a computer operator in Social science education.

Mrs Blessing yakubu, highlighted that the Human human resource division has helped define there responsibilities such as making results in the computer side section, how to make results for student and memos also for the department. Mrs Blessing also highlight some challenges, that wish to be addressed by the Human resource division.

According to her “I think what the human resource should help us to give some more trainings, so that we can update own department that the computers, there are so many softwares that are coming up and we need to stay updated with one coming”.

Human resource have, played and is still playing a vital role in the institution, supervising and providing man power that aid in it’s elegantic administration, Human resource division also monitor and promote staff through the recommendation from various HODs in various departments.
